Want To Start Motocross? 2 Types Of Gear You Need To Purchase First

If you purchased a motorcycle because you want to learn motocross, you need to ensure you have the right gear before you start. This is important, as gear is meant to keep you safe and more comfortable. To help you, below are two types of gear you can get started with.

Helmet

One of the most important things you need to purchase is a helmet to protect your head if you have an accident. It is important that you purchase the right type and size. When you start shopping, you will notice there are different types available, such as:

  • Open face: Your face is completely exposed but the helmet still offers support for your head
  • Full face: This covers your entire face except for your eyes, as well as covers the front, top, and back of your head.
  • Modular: This is a full-face helmet that has a chin bar that is flipped up to turn the helmet into an open face helmet.
  • Off road: This is the most popular type of helmet for motocross because the helmet is lightweight and it provides you with ventilation when the weather is hot.

When you purchase the helmet, the salesperson will ensure that it fits you properly and that you purchase the right one for your needs.

Goggles

Along with a helmet, you need to purchase goggles to protect your eyes. Even with a full-face helmet, your eyes are still exposed.

There are two main types of goggles used for motocross: roll-off and tear-off. Both types have multiple layers of clear film across the lenses. You remove a lens as the goggles become dirty to reveal a clean lens underneath. This allows you to have clear sight while you are riding your motocross bike.

With the roll-off system, you pull a chord to roll off one layer of film on your goggles. The tear off system has tabs on the individual clear film. You pull on the tab to remove the dirty film. You can remove multiple layers throughout your race, if needed.

You can also find goggles that have anti-fog and anti-scratch lenses, removable nose guards, and foam on the sides of the goggles for your comfort. Make sure the goggles that you choose has lenses that offer UV protection.

You can try on several pairs of goggles to determine the type that is most comfortable for you. You do need to make sure they fit snugly, as you do not want the goggles to fall off while you are riding.

There are many other types of gear you need to purchase before you start doing motocross, such as boots, jacket, gloves, and more. You can find this gear at sports shops, such as Bob's Cycle & Snowmobile Supply.
