Having A Great Time With Your Kids

Weathering The Storm While Out On The Water

If you just purchased a pontoon boat, it is likely you can't wait to get it out on the open waters to enjoy some relaxation. It is important to be prepared for inclement weather when using a vessel so you remain safe and comfortable as you try to make your way to the shoreline. Here are some must-have pontoon accessories to keep on board to aid in battling precipitation, high winds, and extreme temperatures when out on the water.

Equip Your Boat With Containers

It is important to have a storage source on board your boat in case of the need to get back to land fast. Under the seat containers or containers you can strap to the sides of your vessel will allow you to place items inside for easy access. This will aid not only in saving precious belongings from becoming waterlogged, but will also provide you with an area to stash raincoats, headgear, umbrellas, and other small accessories.

Be Prepared With A Covering

When inclement weather arrives, there is a chance someone on your boat will become cold from the beating down of rain or snow as well as from gusty winds. Make sure there is a blanket on board your boat to help keep those present dry and warm. If you do not have a container to store material items, tape or hook a tarp to the flooring of your boat for emergency situations. This can be draped around people, placed over the controls to keep them out of the path of moisture, or used as a flag if your pontoon is unable to reach land without assistance.

Keep A Source Of Communication Handy

While you may not feel comfortable bringing an expensive cell phone on board your pontoon, having a cheap pre-paid phone is a good idea. This can be kept in a waterproof bag and attached via a hook to a stationary portion of your boat so it is easy to reach in case of an emergency. This phone will come in handy if you need to get a hold of someone else on the water or if you want to alert someone on land that you are still on the water during a stormy situation. This way they can alert the authorities to search for your vessel if you do not arrive back at your docking area within a reasonable amount of time.
